I think of self help books like learning a new task. Sure the videos and lessons will teach you what you need to know but. If you don’t put what you have learnt into action, then the lessons won’t have the desire effect.
So, self help books can’t work for you, you will need to implement what you have learnt and stick with it to get results.
And some self help books won’t work for you because they contain inaccurate or misleading advice or the book just doesn’t relate to your situation.
